WHY I DECIDED TO CONCEAL CARRY - AN OPEN LETTER FROM CONCEALMENT CLOTHES AMBASSADOR JASON BEST
Concealment Clothes wants you to conceal with confidence. We understand that being able to carry a firearm means that you are able to protect yourself and those around you, regardless of the situation. We can give you all of our recommendations and opinions, but truly you are the core of our business.
This is why we asked our ambassador Jason Best to talk about why he decided to conceal carry. If you’re debating on getting your concealed carry license this article will explain how Jason came to his decision to conceal carry.
“On October 1st, 2017 there was a man (I’m not going to mention his name, he doesn't deserve the attention) that opened fire on the crowd at the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas strip in Nevada. There were 867 people injured 411 from gunfire. There were 61 deaths including the gunman.
I can remember watching everything that happened afterward on the news. I felt bad for the people that were there simply to enjoy themselves. I felt bad for the people that lost their lives and the people that got hurt either by gunfire or due to everyone panicking and getting trampled. I felt bad for the families of the people that lost their lives or the people that got injured.
Senseless acts of violence like this are confusing for most of the population. There's no logical reason that mass shootings happen. I was angry on behalf of the crowd and I wasn't even there. I know a lot of other people felt the same way and still feel the same way about acts of violence like this.
I can remember thinking that there's no way I ever wanted to be in a situation like that where I wouldn’t be able to do anything about it given the chance. As I watched the reports and listened to the news, I decided right then and there that I was going to get my conceal carry permit and purchase my first firearm.
There's a lot that goes with buying a firearm and taking on the responsibility of protecting the people around you. You need to know your state laws and local laws on what you're allowed to legally carry, how you can legally use your firearm, what situations you can use it, and how you can use it. If you carry or are thinking about doing so, it’s always recommended to learn the laws and do it legally. Training at the shooting range is a requirement, but there will never be a point in time where there will be an efficient amount of training.
Never stop learning how to improve with your firearm.
There are a plethora of training classes that will help you prepare for different situations. You can take classes from pro-shooters, ex-military, and people who have special training. When you decide to conceal carry, choosing a firearm that works best for you is the most important choice you will make. Although most people will ask others for suggestions, I believe that’s the wrong way to choose.
Recommendations will always help, but the best way to choose what’s right for you is by heading to your local FFL and handling as many different firearms as possible. Test out carrying them, shooting them (if you can), and drawing. When you’re picking your firearm, you want to factor in your body type and your method of concealing it. Make sure to factor in different options for summer and winter clothes. Colder weather typically makes it easier to conceal because you have more layers. Summertime can get a little trickier depending on the climate and your clothing choices.
There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing to conceal carry. Speak with people that have experience. Firearm safety and being responsible is important. Practice and learning how your firearm works and being able to take it apart to maintain it is important.
