THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DEEP CONCEALMENT AND REGULAR CONCEALMENT

by Leon Anthony 21 Jul 2022

We live in a dangerous world—and it’s hard to predict what kind of evil is lurking in the next corner, the parking lot, or street. It’s always better to be prepared for any type of circumstance, which is why having a concealed carry is so vital.

As much as your firearm is meant to self-defense, it can also be a cause of distress if it’s revealed inappropriately. For this reason, it’s important to properly conceal your weapon. There are two main types of concealed carry, deep and regular. In this article, we’re going to look at the differences between the two.

WHAT IS A CONCEALED CARRY?

As far as firearms are concerned, concealment means carrying a weapon in a discrete manner that makes it hard for third parties to notice that you’re carrying. The idea is to keep the fact that you’re armed a secret—that is until you choose to reveal your weapon.

Concealment typically comes in two forms. You can either use deep concealment holsters or regular holsters. The choice between the two comes down to your level of comfort, accessibility, and the level of risk you’re willing to take.

FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHILE CONCEALING YOUR FIREARM

One of the biggest challenges for gun owners is finding the best holster to safely secure your firearm on the go. There are several options—with each offering different capabilities. Whether you use regular or deep concealment, here are a few factors to keep in mind:

  • Accessibility : How easily can you access your weapon? Your concealed weapon needs to be easily and quickly accessible when the need arises. A few seconds can make a huge difference in your safety or that of others at risk.
  • Storage : Having a place to quickly store your weapon is an important—yet often overlooked—factor. When you no longer need your firearm, your holster or any storage should allow you to put it away swiftly—hence freeing your hands or showing law enforcement that you’re not a threat.
  • Retention : Regardless of the situation, you need to maintain possession of your firearm and associated gear such as speed loaders and magazines. Loss of the weapon leaves you and others at risk—especially if the adversary gets possession. A concealment holster should be geared towards optimizing retention by reducing the risk of negligent discharges.

DEEP CONCEALMENT OR REGULAR CONCEALMENT

Most gun owners find that regular concealments are both inconvenient and risky – i.e., they tend to show too much of the firearm. Sure, some individuals can get away with walking around with regular concealment that does little to hide their full-size service pistol—but most of us have less permitting social and professional obligations.

If you want to legally carry your firearm on the go, a DCC (deep concealment carry) is the logical option. It is basically a specialized toolset designed to offer maximum concealment with a negligible negative impact on accessibility, storage, and retention.

Here are five big perks to carrying with deep concealment over regular:

REDUCED PRINTING WITHOUT LIMITING YOUR WARDROBE CHOICES

To solve the issue of printing—which is associated with traditional holsters—gun owners are forced to add bulky layers or use larger clothing or to conceal the weapon. And as you can guess, this clearly an uncomfortable option—especially in hotter seasons.

INCREASED AWARENESS

With deep concealment, you’re less concerned about keeping your carry a secret—and instead focusing on your surroundings. This helps in ensuring you are always alert for danger as your attention is not divided.

COMFORT

Most DCCs are designed to blend seamlessly with your everyday attire. They barely jab or poke at your body as you go on with your daily activities. This also means that you can carry your weapon more regularly.

ENHANCED RETENTION

With deep carry concealments, the risk of negligent discharges or losing your weapon is low. You can comfortably move around and bend knowing that your weapon is safely tucked and secured.

PEACE OF MIND

Deep concealment is a great way for new gun owners to carry their firearms in public with confidence. It relieves them of the pressure of worrying about drawing attention.

There are dozens of deep carry concealment options—including deep concealment shirts, pocket carry, thigh holster, shoulder holsters, belly holsters, ankle holster, outside the waistband, and inside the waistband holsters. But remember, always consider your body size/shape, lifestyle, and your environment. For example, some DCC holsters are better suited for casual activities while others are ideal for business professionals.

So, how do you carry—deep or regular?
